My birthday holiday...trip to Sydney with the whole family PART 1

For most of this year I've been thinking of how I would like to celebrate turning 30. I kinda think it's the last birthday where you can be slightly excited and I also reckon it's a bit of a milestone. I'm not sure I'm going to be too keen to celebrate 40, altho I also like the idea of ANY excuse for celebration being a good one so we'll see eh!?!

Anyway, I thought about going away to a spa for the weekend by myself, but then I knew I'd just spend the whole time missing my family. So instead, I decided on having a celebration with friends AND then doing something really cool with the whole family. So we booked a 3 bedroom apartment (the Meriton Pitt Street - absolutely fantastic, definitely would go there again!)

Parking was expensive and Aaron's parents were free on the train so they chose to go up that way and Josh went with them on the ride up. SO - on monday this week, we all got up ridiculously early to get Josh to the train by 6.30am.

After settling in (I was the first one in the apartment and I ran thru it SO EXCITED that it was so nice, and briefly thought about how even the kitchen made me feel like cooking - very briefly). Our bedroom had TWO massive wardrobes, like the big ones in the kids rooms upstairs here and an ensuite with a spa (I didn't even know that when I booked lol). It was pretty cool. They even had this office thing with bi-fold doors and it was way big enough for the portacot so our 3 bedroom place effectively became 4 bedrooms for us and it was a real blessing that Kai had his own room.

That afternoon after lunch at the QVB, Aaron, David and Josh went off exploring Dave's old submarine that is now a museum in darling harbour. Those are the photo's at the start of this post and i can't tell you much about them cause mum, beryle, Kai and I went shopping :)

After the boys were in bed later that night, Aaron and I headed off by ourselves to have a nice dinner. Well, it was just one shocker after another!! It was FREEZING cause a very strong cold wind had blown up and we didn't want to go far. The grandparents had all ordered from a turkish place just down the block and said it was nice so we thought we'd may as well go there...perhaps the fact that it was empty aside from one other table and the seats were ripped should have alerted us...then the dirty water jug they gave us should have warned us even more...but we persevered cause we didn't want to brave the wind again in search of something else. And while being serenaded by bugs being zapped in the bug killer thing, and watching the owner scoop a dead fish out of the fish tank, we ate our very ordinary meal that wasn't even turkish cause that part of the restaurant was closed!!! It sure makes for a funny memory, but at the time we were really disappointed that our 'special' meal was such a flop.

Ahhh well, you get that sometimes eh :)

and so that was monday ;) ...

I remember the last meal Rob and I had on our honeymoon ... it was soooo similar to the experience you and Aaron had in Sydney ... right down to the bug catcher thingy. In fact, the bug catcher provided almost the only light in the place, so we ate our dinner by the light of a bug catcher!!!!

Very romantic!
