At work, our programs have to include both our teaching philosophy and our goals for the short/long term. I haven't actually handed my program in for a number of years, and had lost my previously typed up philosophy so I was in the process of starting from scratch and rewriting it.
I actually find it quite hard to put into words and have been procrastinating for a long time :(
Then I did a clean up last week and found my old one :)
I thought for sure I wouldn't agree with what I had written as it was done a number of years ago, but I just finished reading over it again and was pleasantly surprised to find that I still completely agree with everything I had written. I guess some things just don't change :)
Now...on to my goals ;)

Milestone :)
We've had a very quiet weekend with Aaron and I being sick. I'm hoping I'm at the tail end, but he's just started :(
Josh lost his FIRST tooth yesterday! (4 June 2011) It'd been loose for a week and the big tooth was impatiently coming up before the old one had vacated the spot. Unfortunately it would seem Josh swallowed the tooth when it came out :( and then I forgot and didn't come through with any 'cash' overnight. oops. We don't do tooth fairy but I was going to do something and simply forgot. Poor guy was pretty disappointed this morning!
I'm about halfway through report writing (yuk) and 'Larkrise to Candleford'. It's such a sweet show, I'm loving it :)
I've joined Pinterest...talk about a dangerous time waster! It's pretty awesome, but I've kinda avoided it (only have about 4 things pinned lol!) because I know I could (ok - WILL) get addicted...

cucumbers, cheese & something healthy for me too please
last night at dinner, Kai was crazy about eating all the cheese out of the salad and Josh was the same about the cucumber. all i can say is that I'm so glad they like healthy food :)
life with children is an awesome, exhausting, fun, learning, challenging and inexplicably rewarding ride. it helps us mature, reassess priorities and become less selfish. and so much more
aside from still feeling sick, I would not want my life right now to be any different. and i want to always remember to thank God for that. always.
i've been really busy with home and work lately. and altho I've sat many times at the computer to do a new post here, something else has seemed a little more pressing at the time. and that's ok.
there's been some issues at work that have needed a lot of prayer, wisdom and courage. I have found I lacked in at least one area in at least part of the issue at times, and am relieved that it is over, at least my part in it is. i am constantly reminded of how easy it is to do what we think is right in our own eyes...and that following Jesus can be downright uncomfortable at times.
one of my favourite childhood memories was getting to lick the bowl/beaters when mum made a cake. it's really nice to see my own children doing that now too :)
lol...no that's not cake that ella is eating :) she started on solids just yesterday - nearly 5 months old. The boys both started between 5-6 months so she's a little earlier, and doing well.
i've been in bed for the past 4 days with probably the worst flu/throat infection I've ever had :( each time I thought I felt better and got up, I wouldn't last long. After having dinner with the family on friday night I ended up back in bed very quickly and could barely even communicate. Not a nice bug at all. God is good tho, and worked thru Aaron to bless me with lots of TLC and Aaron and mum took great care of the kids so I didn't have to 'worry'. I'm so glad to be feeling heaps better today :)
probably lots of other news, but nothing I can actually remember right now. i really need to come up with some sort of diary system that works for me cause I'm forgetting A LOT. Hoping that things will be a bit easier when I finish up work soon.

around here lately...
...lots of growing going on...ella is now wearing both size 00 and 0 clothes. how i'd love her to stay small just a little longer. Josh starting back at school after his first ever school holidays and Kai is talking heaps - finally!
...happy to find this print on sale after i'd been eyeing it off but not willing to pay $30 just for the print. and then to find a frame on sale as well...i'm in heaven!
...like father - like son...trying to convince Kai that the camera is his friend. i think we're slowly making progress
...deciding to finish up at work at the end of this term...taking 18 months off to be with the kids. It simply got exponentially harder to go back with each child (not that it was ever EASY) and so we're taking a leap of faith in God's provision and I am so grateful, excited and yes...just a little nervous! but in line with my theme for this year, gratitude is definitely the strongest emotion regarding this huge decision
...putting up some curtains in the lounge/dining to try and keep the house a little warmer. Found some (on special of course!!) that I love. Just wish it was turning out that easy with getting fabric for ella's room...drama drama....started the 'Growing Kids, God's Way' course through GFA. 4 month photo shoot...

what? u want me to smile?...but i can't eat my hands when i'm smiling...
wow this past 4 months has gone fast. in no time at all ella will be starting solids :( she's seriously eating her hands already, the only time they're not in her mouth is when she's fully asleep :)
she's still trying to roll over...but I'm really keen for her to just stay put for a little while longer.
at the dr last week she weighed 8kg. but she still had her clothes on so she's probably not quite that big (yet!). She met her daddy's cousin's little boy the other day (Ben's son) who was born the day after her. She is bigger than him. I'm glad she's too young to get a complex about it yet ;)
she's just seriously awesome. eats and sleeps on schedule and is really good at waiting if we have to change things around. smiles and puts up with her doting brothers really well. they are still gorgeous with her, lots of kisses and 'cuggles' and Josh loves to say that he's 'protecting' baby Ariella. He always uses her full name, despite me and my silly-made-up-names obsession.
she still sleeps in with us...partly cause she's my last baby and I'm just holding onto it a little longer...and partly because it's taken me FOREVER to find curtain fabric that I like in order to make blinds for her windows...
i didn't do too well saying goodbye and going back to work last week. who knows why the difficulty with that seems to have increased exponentially with each baby?...

so inspired
by the latest work by this awesome scrapbooker...some major scraplifting ideas there when I get the chance!! Particularly inspired on a digi level :)
Well, my maternity leave is over! I officially go back this wednesday (bit of a change this week, normally it would be thurs). But tomorrow I'm in for a quick 'welcome' and devotion with my class. It's a bittersweet feeling...work helps me organise my time better and I love being able to share Jesus with my kids and colleagues. But I do still feel torn. It's alleviated somewhat by the fact that mum looks after the 2 babies, and Josh goes to preschool etc. I know a LOT of people do it much tougher than me (my own mum did, for instance). I know I'm hugely blessed and I don't take it for granted. I am also blessed with wonderful people to work with - I believe that makes such a huge difference too :) anyway you look at it, God is good!
Ariella is a little better. Will probably take her to the Dr tomorrow and make sure she's going along as she should be. Poor little honey - she's such a sweetheart, barely makes a fuss at all and still chatters although not quite as loud as usual :)
Josh has instantly outgrown everything he owns and we're on a mission to replace the wardrobe at the best possible price. We try to buy the best quality we can for things that we'll pass on to Kai, cause we've learned from experience that the quality things really do get 2 kids worth out of them.
A slightly selfish prayer request? Please pray it doesn't rain tomorrow (tuesday) morning?! Our new heater is due to be installed and it won't get done if it rains!! We aren't quite freezing...but it's pretty cool around here at the moment lol.

did i mention i love my work?!
Today was my first day back at work since I caught that rotten bug (also happens to be my last day - I'm now officially off work til term 2 next year!! YAY!!!). I have missed my kids - and it's always nice to arrive at work and have them show that they have missed me too :)
We have a 'class mum' system. A student's mum (or 2) is designated as the class mum and they are kinda in charge of organising things and most importantly, praying for the students and the teacher/s. It's a really wonderful system and I've had some fantastic class mums over the years.
Well, this fabulous creation - a 'nappy cake' (the photos DO NOT do it justice!) - is thanks to our current class mum who organised the kids to make nappies, bibs, singlets and socks into this wonderful gift for our baby. They proudly presented it to me this morning :) I was really blessed - and spent the rest of the day raving about how cool it was!!
(Plus then heaps of them gave me Christmas presents as well...don't I feel spoilt!)

mummy...i want another boy baby
That's the last thing Josh said to me as I said goodnight, I love you and sleep well tonight...I guess that's a real positive from the perspective that he must be happy with Malakai (?)...but I wonder what he'll think if it turns out to be a girl baby? We possibly find out on monday afternoon (4th Aug) depending on whether they can see it all clearly. I kinda think it's a boy (and thanks to God - literally! - we now have a name if it is :) so we'll see huh.
Malakai is finally coming good from his conjunctivitis. Feels like he's had it for ages poor fella. We ended up taking both boys to the Dr today to get ears and throats checked and altho Josh has enlarged tonsils, he's not actually sick apparently.
Off to work tomorrow :) I am so grateful for my job, I LOVE where I work and altho I have my blah days like everyone else, I really am spoiled :) I love the balance of part-time stay at home mummy and part-time teacher. It's perfect for me.

so glad it's nearly the weekend...
What a week! Didn't finish work til nearly 6pm tonight. We've slightly (ok, MAJORLY) changed our outlook on programming within our year 5 team, including a lot more of our own regular standardised assessment items etc and with the extra change over to incorporating ELA's (from the government, we're actually not 'required' to have it included yet, but we've turned into crazy people lately) it's been a lengthy process this term. We're still not finished (well, can I be naughty and boast and say I am finished my part??!)...since I'm the fussy one (with formatting etc) I've done some extra work on other people's programs too :) lol, it feels good but I'm exhausted and don't want to go ANYWHERE near work til next thurs morning!!
So Aaron's gone off to men's camp this weekend. Poor guy came down with a cold during the week and isn't feeling all that great but I think he'll end up having a good time away (altho I'll miss him heaps, as I always do...). Malakai woke up with a pretty revolting case of conjunctivitis today and isn't feeling great either!! I feel a little like Aaron's tried to be generous and share his cold with me but am really wanting to avoid that :( I think we'll be having a quiet weekend here.
Thank God for mum, she's been such a help this week while I've been crazy busy with work. Thanks Mum :)
Am thinking about our 'excursion' for next week...haven't decided yet. Has to be basically free cause we've tightened the budget belt lately (love that rising cost of living lol) perhaps a visit to the library for story time? or the national museum...I love that about Canberra, there really are a lot of options for relatively cheap outings.
I think I'll go head off to bed! ha ha...pretty funny when going to bed at 8.30 is so very appealing

very busy at work these past couple of days. this is our PD week and the students don't return til tomorrow. Yesterday was a big long day of sitting and listening...including a very necessary (but not overly riveting) information session on schools and the law. came home with a massive headache - definitely due to trying to cram more info into my brain than could possibly fit at the moment!! lol
Today was a half days PD on this AWESOME resilience training program called bounce back. I LOVE IT. Can't wait to do some of it informally with my kids this year (and even at home here with my babies) and a little more formally next year. Then a wonderful lunch out with the girls and a few meetings to finish off the day. WOW, so exhausted :)
Still lots to get done before I'm really ready for the term so better get to it.

a fresh new week
I have a love/hate relationship with mondays. I love that it's sorta the start of a fresh new week (seems sunday being the start of the week has become a technicality?) I love all the wonderful possibilities for the week that come with monday planning. But then...Aaron heads off to work after what always seems like a too-short weekend and it's my house-cleaning/laundry day. Ahhh - welcome monday! (today actually happens to be Kai's 11 month old birthday...I really should get thinking about what we'll do next month for him!)
I snapped out of my procrastination rut on friday morning and finished my health program. Wow that thing was a torturous experience ;) but it got me on a roll for friday being ultra productive. As soon as I'd finished that I ran off to catch up with Nicky over chips for lunch (who would've thought i'd recently been inspired by Jamie?) and then came home to organise what I thought were a few photo's I needed to print to 'catch up' on that, which actually ended up being this whole years worth so far! How did that happen? That I haven't had any photo's printed since January??
I'd planned dinner out with a colleague and Danielle at Bellucci's in Woden. I haven't been there in forever. It was a nice night, but I think I was expecting too much from the food. It was a little ordinary :(
Saturday was another productive day :) we got out into the garden again and totally massacred a really ugly shrub we have out there. Without exaggerating, we literally gained about 6feet of yard space once we'd hacked it back! That's where I've finally convince Aaron we can fit a swing set :) very exciting!! I guess if we can't have a trampoline we can at least have a swing set :)
Sunday was great, got some much needed rain praise the Lord. Church was great and we enjoyed going out for supper too.

seriously PROCRASTINATING
I shouldn't be on here, I'm supposed to be finishing our term 3 health program (about healthy eating actually, which is kinda ironic after watching Jamie Oliver talk all about that last night).
but...
i'm procrastinating and basically wasting time looking at blogs that haven't been updated since I checked them last time and thinking about how nice it would be to have a sleep right now...
lunch with Stace was good, she's pregnant too (of course - there's an epidemic) she's 2wks behind me so we talked mostly about pregnancy stuff. Such a difference tho, with her on her 1st baby and me on my 3rd...
ahhhhh....well i guess i'll hate myself if I waste much more time. hope you're all having a much more productive afternoon than I am!

busy productive day
we got out in the garden today, seeing as it's been the nicest day in a little while (and we didn't have to be anywhere). Aaron got VERY enthusiastic about the little patch of garden at the end of the pergola that was under siege by weeds and had a very unattractive dead tree stump in it. We want to plant something nice there...have to do some research to find out what will do best. anyway so he weeded the whole thing and then chopped out the tree stump! he didn't think he'd get it all done today, but it turned out to be a little quicker than we thought :)
I pruned a few rose bushes that had already lost their leaves. I have no idea if it's still too early to prune them, but honestly don't care either cause around here it has to kinda get done when it gets done!
as soon as we'd finished in the garden we needed to head off and help pack up the treasury. since then we've been just trying to wind down from a really long, busy week - spend some time together etc.
aaron's been flat out at work this week and my two days were possibly the worst 2 of the year so far!! lol, sometimes things get to the point where you really have to laugh or you'll cry. I did a lot of laughing on thurs/fri! My class is beautiful. Seriously, they are a delight. I don't have ANY major behaviour issues at all this year. It's a huge blessing, especially when I'm tired from growing this baby ;)
my 'laughing' was caused by other issues actually, and I am learning quite a bit thru it all. I'm also grateful for the support I know I have from our exec team and the wonderful friends I've made at school that are helpful 'sounding boards' when I desperately need it!
Josh has also been sick with some random thing, mostly at night. During the day he hasn't seemed sick at all. But then around dinner time he'll get this fever and be completely lethargic and...just really sick. It's been awful for him. It seems to be over now...very strange. Seems to be tho, that if either of the boys is going to be sick it's always on a thurs or fri??

- I've felt the baby move. I told my midwife I thought I had but wasn't sure ( you know how at this early stage you can still mistake it for other lovely things like gas!) but she said it was more than likely the baby. COOL!
- Malakai is giving KISSES!!! He's done it before, but it was kinda random and i wasn't sure. But now he has been giving them for a few days. They are so sloppy and totally open-mouthed but REALLY adorable! And he claps now too. ahhhhh...so proud! lol
- I heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time on wednesday. Always love that.
- Josh has gone back to wanting kisses to 'make it better' when he hurts himself. He's been thru the longest phase of not wanting that :(

little things...
some small, seemingly insignificant blessings lately:
Josh got to wear pj's to day care today for red nose day. I completely forgot to get him a red nose tho, and was hoping he wouldn't notice/care. well of course he DID, but he was so philosophical about it - says oh well, there'll be another day to wear pj's soon and he can have a red nose then! lol
have a great blessed weekend everyone :)

- the 'picnic' chocolate bar that mum gave me ;)
- elastic waisted skirts/stretchy tops for this stage of pregnancy where maternity clothes are too big but 'normal' clothes don't fit!
- refreshed perspective
- getting term 3 organised before the end of term 2 so I can relax in the holidays...and catching up on my marking after a particularly whirlwind term
- rubber gloves when having to pick up squished banana on playground duty (eww!!!)

I love broccoli...when we eat at the Hyatt (which isn't all that often!) I always head to the buffet (while Aaron stocks up on seafood - surprise surprise) and nearly half fill my plate with perfectly steamed broccoli to start. I LOVE IT!
BUT
I hate it right now. Can barely stand the look of it, let alone actually eat it. It's awful! I'd love to assume that since both my previous pregnancies caused no distaste of broccoli then this one must be a girl, but I dunno...I still think it's a boy. Plus 2 'comedian' colleague friends at work today both declared it was a boy. ha ha ha, so funny.
Feeling very yuk tonight. Couldn't even eat dinner (gives an idea of how i feel since I can't stop eating right now!!) I have been going off the coke lately but drank a bottle during a team meeting this evening so possibly the culprit? Can you believe that tho? That'd make 2 things I don't like this pregnancy: broccoli AND coke. crazy.

YAY!!
PRAISE GOD!!!!! Reports are officially FINISHED!! God sent me a massive blessing in the form of our prac student who helped me so much these last couple of days.
So we had takeaway from the Turkish Grill in Erindale for dinner tonight - BEST turkish! Really nice way to celebrate the end of reports :)

Had our 'real' scan yesterday afternoon and altho I was disappointed they didn't contradict the findings from the previous week (in terms of due date, which is officially the 28 Dec now that we have the report), it was still awesome to see our little blessing wriggling around etc. I will never cease to be amazed and grateful for the technology that exists enabling us to see them so soon.
Josh helped a new little boy at day care today - played with him and took care of him. Then he didn't want Josh to leave this afternoon. I was really proud :) he's such a delightful boy on the 2 days he goes to day care, obviously really really needs that extra socialisation and stimulation.
Malakai has 6 teeth now. Crazy. He bit me on the knee a few weeks back and he certainly knows how to inflict pain with the few teeth he has :( He's totally in love with his Nanna and GG (great-grandmother). His GG came to visit for dinner last night and he performed beautifully for her (she loved it of course!) and Josh was really impressive too, speaking to her in a most mature way :) love those moments.
And now YAY for the weekend, bring it on! :)

unfortunate yuk day
wow, haven't had a day like this in so long it's a bit of a shock! Went back to questacon with Aaron and his parents today because we were all excited to see the reptile exhibit for 2-6year olds.
but we didn't read the fine print and it wasn't on cause today isn't a school day :(
so very disappointed
but that's not all folks!
then I went to change Kai, jumped in the lift and...nothing. For 20mins NOTHING. Started thinking that it really was happening to me, I was stuck in a lift! unbelievable. just couldn't help thinking, 'this sort of thing doesn't happen to me, I have a relatively boring life!'. I had to press the emergency button and everything. so weird. chatted with the lovely lady on the other end of the phone and she said she'd organise a mechanic to come get me out (sounded like it would take a long time). Then I rang the inlaws to let them know what had happened to me, and they pressed the button outside the lift and VOILA! the doors opened! crazy huh.
silly me then thought I'd better ring the lady back on the emergency phone to let her know and the lift doors started closing again and wouldn't open - it was pretty funny, there's poor Beryle trying to keep them open for me and almost yelling that I need to GET OUT before they shut! So we rushed out and then I eventually made my way down to the cafe for a much needed coke and caramel slice ;)
really didn't feel like writing report comments after we got home from all that. Josh didn't cope well after a while either cause he was exhausted from the busy weekend...so that added to the 'unfortunate-ness' of the day :( basically it was just one thing after another.
but PRAISE GOD, when I finally made it to school and got into the groove of writing comments, I got all but 2 done!! I prayed before I started and I gotta say, it's TOTALLY a miracle that I got so many done, and I am so grateful.
now I'm going to spend some much needed snuggle time with Aaron - vegging out! YAY!

busy busy...sorry, long post!
wow, what a great week.
Tuesday ended up being drawing and playdough rather than painting. Josh loves playing with the playdough so much that he didn't mind. We'll likely do painting this week instead.
Questacon was excellent on wednesday with Pam and the kids. Will have to upload some photo's soon. We stayed there all day! lol. the boys had a blast and Pam and I even had a chance to just sit and chat at one stage. Very cool.
Wednesday night at church was awesome too. Have been enjoying the visiting ministry so much.
Work on thurs/fri went well. Lots of things to get through. Slowly working on reports and grade stuff. Even made it to breakfast with the girls before school thursday :) very nice.
Thursday night just enjoying that quiet time after the boys were in bed, spending time with Aaron. And speaking of my wonderful husband, he won a toastmaster's award complete with a TROPHY on thursday!! I am so proud :) and he got an interview for another position. It's a step higher than he is now and in a completely different area so we're excited that he at least made it to interview (esp since he has absolutely no experience in that area at all lol) Praise God.
Friday night I spent with Lisa having a girly night watching chick flicks since her Josh is away. Aaron is so generous, didn't mind me going at all. We ate takeaway and watched Hairspray and The Lake House. I hadn't seen either but poor Lisa had seen both before. We were only supposed to watch Hairspray but when she found out that I hadn't seen The Lake House we had to watch that one too (and I'm glad, I liked it heaps better than Hairspray! lol) if we'd have had time I would have forced her to watch Transformers since i found out she hasn't seen that! Can't believe it!
And now it's a beautiful saturday morning, Aaron and Josh are visiting the grandparents and the Fyshwick markets and I am gonna get off this computer and go get things done before Malakai wakes up from his nap. So far I have been pottering...sometimes I just love to do that. I've cleaned the downstairs bathroom sink just cause I was in there and it was dirty from Josh washing his grubby hands. And I've cleaned my washing machine and stuff in the laundry...like I said, just pottering!
Got a baby shower this afternoon and hopefully some special family time before then.

I can't believe the weekend is over already.
Staff retreat was great. I always kind of dread it cause it means time away from Aaron and the boys, but over the last few years I've enjoyed it more and more. I was sad cause my very good friend Ali wasn't able to go this year (pregnancy complications), so Nath (another member of our yr 5 team) organised for Robyn and I to be invited with the boys to breakfast at John's place. He's very sweet :) breakfast was great and reminded me of the group of us that first started at TCS and how we'd meet for breakfast quite a bit (well ok, they would meet and I would show up later once I was up and finally got there!)
Our travel arrangements were slightly altered at the last minute which ended up being a bit of a strain but praise God, we made it alive and only slightly travel sick.
The speaker was good, told lots of stories which I always enjoy. Challenged us about our personal walk with God and our integrity (both personally and professionally).
The food was...um...good for vegetarian I guess! I haven't really had a lot of exposure to real vegetarian food (like vege mince) so it was an eye opener. We're going there again next year so I'm going to have to think of something...special dietary requirements or the like ;) they had AWESOME cookies tho, ate quite a few of them :)
All the girls in our cabin talked til after midnight :) we ended up talking a lot about the different churches we go to. I've only ever been to a catholic church (that I grew up with) and the one I'm at now (pentecostal) so I don't know a lot about other places. It was all very interesting. We had a great night. They were all shocked that someone would run during a worship service in our church. lol
Got back around 5pm saturday and grabbed a quick nap before we headed out to church that night (special service with visiting ministry). Most of the time it feels like an exercise in futility going with the kids, but we persevere. Sunday night was the best for us, the boys were AMAZING (and it made such a difference that Nic and Jim took Kai for me, thanks guys!) I so appreciated being able to really get into a service. Bro Johnson had a word from God for us too, which blessed and touched me on so many levels...it's hard to explain so I won't. Just feeling very much in awe of God and His love for me. And excited about His plans for our future.
Got a pretty busy week ahead - reports are due next week so I'll be flat out doing grades and writing comments. Taking Josh to questacon with Pam and the kids on wednesday (Josh is REALLY looking forward to that!) swimming - oops, that's NOW!! my grandma over for dinner and all the other regular stuff. Should be great :)

a bit of this and that
ugh - got a killer headache and am really tired. Feeling good despite that tho :)
So we took Josh to Possum Magic last night at the Canberra Theatre. We spoiled him with dinner at Macca's beforehand as well. It was fantastic! So many kids there and no major dramas. The actors used puppets and did such a good job (I actually am finding it hard to describe...sorry).
Josh's favourite parts remind me of his father. He loved the snake (the only 'very mildly' scary bit) which I found amazing cause she did ballet the whole time and I actually thought he'd get bored. And his other favourite part was when a seagull poo-ed in a man's face! So the only scary bit and the grossest bit were his favourites. Like father, like son.
Am off to my staff retreat in Jinabyne tomorrow at the horrendous time of 7.15am! Altho I'm really not complaining cause we're not catching the school bus, we're driving and stopping at another staff member's place who lives in Michelago and his wonderful wife is cooking us breakfast!! Isn't that cool!
The venue is Seventh day adventist so there's no meat the whole time :( I'm a little...concerned about that. I love meat. Seriously. I do cook some vegetarianish meals sometimes, in fact I used to try doing that once a week...but it never was REALLY vegetarian. I heard there's vegetarian lasagne for dinner :( the closest we get to meat is chicken sausages for lunch. You're probably thinking...you're not there that long Kylee...get over it (and that's fine, I don't mind). But I'm already planning a little visit into Jindabyne for a meat pie tomorrow afternoon or something ;)
right now I'm going to enjoy the beef roast mum's cooked for dinner :)
