This is how Josh looked yesterday...and the nurse said 'the swelling has gone down a lot'.
What a crazy monday.
Sunday night Josh was his normal self at church. Then as soon as we got home, he went and fell asleep on the couch. He never does that. As I picked him up to take him to bed I thought he felt warm. Monday morning he woke up crying and saying his throat and tummy hurt. Mum felt the glands on his neck and they were huge. So off to the Dr went Josh and Mum and came home with some amoxil antibiotics for his tonsilitis.
No big deal.
Gave Josh his first dose, let him watch the first lot of TV he's had in weeks and didn't really think about it again. I got some work done for school and was kinda happy with how the day was going.
Then for some reason I was overcome with compassion and offered for Josh to have his nap with me in our bed. From memory I've only ever done this once before. I thank God for the inspiration. Cause as we were TRYING to nap, Josh was rubbing his eye and fidgeting and coughing like crazy. I thought wow, this bug has given him a nasty cough poor fella. I got cross and told him he could go to his own bed if he couldn't go to sleep, and he started crying and said,
'I can't go to sleep cause my eyelashes are broken'.
I'm like, well, if you didn't rub your eye so much it wouldn't be hurting - leave it alone.
He keeps crying and then looks at me...and he looked like he does in the picture above.
I became a little concerned...wasn't sure what was happening or what to do. So of course I think - mum will know, lets go wake up mum.
Mum kinda freaked. She didn't know either. So we call the Dr and she takes him straight out there again.
Praise God for mum. I stayed home with Malakai who was asleep. Apparently on the way to the Dr's, Josh got worse and worse. He could hardly breathe, said he was going to vomit and his eyes looked way worse than the picture. As soon as they arrive there the Dr says he's having an anaphylactic reaction and they have to give him adrenaline and steroid injections immediately. I wished I could have been there, but am also glad i wasn't. I don't think I would have coped all that well.
He had to stay at the Dr surgery for a couple of hours to be monitored etc and as soon as Aaron got home I was able to go and be with Josh. Not long after I got there they gave us another injection that he had to have at 10pm or so and I'm really grateful mum's here for that too, so we didn't have to go to the hospital at all.
It was such an awful feeling, knowing the severity of anaphylaxis from all our inservicing at school, and feeling like I should have known what it was straight away. Just before he left the house with mum, I was holding him on my lap and praying and singing one of the beautiful songs we learnt while on AYM in Sydney. Then that song, 'Held' by Natalie Grant comes into my head, the first verse in particular and I'm thinking, NO! I don't want to start singing that song :(
I know without a doubt that God had His hand upon Josh (and me lol...). The reaction wasn't nearly as rapid as it could have been. The Dr's and nurse were fantastic. Everybody praying made such a difference. And he's totally fine today - practically all the swelling has gone now and he had a great time at ladies prayer this morning and then, 'Old MacDonald's' with Matthew and Lauren afterward.
God is so good. and I'm so grateful.
