Well - only a week since the last post but so much has happened! Mainly that Malakai Aaron Bryan was born on Tuesday, 21st August 2007. He was 4055g (8pounds, 15ounces) and 51cm long (I think that's nearly 21inches?).
Just for my sake (to remember) and anyone who's interested, I'm gonna summarise the birth (minus any gory bits LOL!):
Monday morning I woke early - like 5:30am with contractions and got all excited. I timed them (kinda) and they were about 10mins apart and just under a minute long so I knew there was a while to go yet. At around 7.30am i thought my waters might have broken (but only the hind waters) but wasn't sure so didn't worry about it much (same thing happened with Josh but it was a false alarm that time).
Went for a long walk with Josh to the park to see if that helped things along. Nup. Still 10mins apart and a minute long...ALL DAY. That evening my midwife Denise wanted us to come in and double check whether my waters had broken and they had. So that meant that if things didn't progress overnight I would have to have my fore-waters broken in the morning and possibly be induced with the drip (syntocinen - don't know how to spell it!). Well, I came home with some pain relief in the hopes that I could get some sleep, but that didn't really happen. I wanted an epidural around 10pm but one of the other midwives on my team wasn't keen and so I just tried to doze in between contractions.
Aaron and I headed into the hospital at 8am tuesday morning, they broke my forewaters (I was only 3cm dilated by then...so disappointed!) and everything kinda went super fast (and painful) from there! Thankfully I didn't need a drip.
So 4 and a 1/2hrs later he was born. Aaron got to deliver him and cut the cord and was so wrapt about that. Unfortunately I had a post-partum hemorrage (spelling?) and lost quite a bit of blood so I was confined to the bed for 24hrs after the birth in case I passed out etc. I was just about the cutoff for a transfusion, so I'm really glad cause that would've been a bother ;o)
Anyway, if you've read this far I hope I haven't grossed you out!
He's perfect! Such a blessing and we're really enjoying every minute with him. Josh has been great, wanting lots of cuddles and learning really well to be gentle. Will try and post lots of pics soon.
